The Elgin Chrysler Major Midgets lost in O/T Sunday to the Amherstburg Stars 3-2 in a heart breaking finish to the 2009/10 season. St. Thomas was leading the 2nd round with 2 points – 0 going into the weekend, but after 2 disappointing losses Friday and Saturday… they were in a do-or-die situation Sunday at home. STMHA alumni Adam Brisson (Aylmer Spitfires) came to support his old team mates acting as announcer with the help of Ricky Corkum our AP Goalie… they kept the energy level high with music and game stats! There was another large crowd out to watch and support our boys on Super Bowl Sunday and St. Thomas came prepared to play, scoring the 1st goal of the game at the end of the 1st period. By the end of the 2nd, Amherstburg had tied the score and continued to out shoot us. St. Thomas took the lead again early in the 3rd but with just 57 seconds remaining, Amherstburg made wise use of their timeout… pulled their goalie and with the help of the extra attacker… scored to send us into overtime!

The Elgin Chrysler Major Midgets tied Southpoint last night in game 5 of their 1st round OMHA playdowns, but that was enough to finish it off. Each game in this match up has been close and down to the wire… (Game 1- tied 2-2; Game 2 – lost 3-2 o/t; Game 3- win 4-2; Game 4 – win 3-2), but St. Thomas was up 5 points to 3 going into last nights game. St. Thomas fought back from a 2 goal deficit after 2 periods… but dominated the 3rd period scoring all 3 of their goals in the 1st half of the 3rd! Southpoint refused to quit and scored a tying goal with about 7 minutes left… which would eventually force us into yet another overtime period. After a 10 minute sudden victory overtime, the game was called a draw and St.Thomas declared the winner of the series!
