Midgets Return Home from Connecticut Tour
Submitted By sherene casey on Thursday, December 10, 2009
The Elgin Chrysler Major Midgets spent 4 days touring U.S. Prep Schools. The 1st school on the tour was South Kent School where St. Thomas won 5-2. The next stop was Westminster School in Simsbury, the tour of this school was fantastic… and included a stop at the on-site planetarium and full size theatre. Parents and fans watched a great game, St. Thomas fought hard but they just couldn’t break through Westminster’s defense in the 3rd period… losing 3-2. The team then headed into New Haven to visit Yale University and watch the Yale Bulldogs vs. Quinnipiac Bobcats sold out game. Saturday’s schedule sent us to Salisbury School, to play our 3rd and final game of the weekend. We were impressed by all 3 schools, which all offer unique learning and athletic opportunities… but Salisbury School was outstanding! We were thrilled to be playing in their brand new athletic centre, which was hosting its very 1st games that day… The state of the art, $20 million facility featured 2 basketball courts, 2 weight rooms, 6 squash courts, an Olympic sized ice pad and a number of other remarkable features! Unfortunately, the busy weekend… many miles/hours on the bus and the 45 minutes of basketball before the game finally caught up with St. Thomas and they lost against Salisbury 5-2.

Although they returned home with a 1 and 2 record, everyone enjoyed the tour. Scoring for St. Thomas this weekend: Tanner Turley 1G/1A; Adam Fisher 1G; Zak Jukna 2G/1A; Tyson Corkum 3G/3A; Tyler Beaulieu 2G/1A… other assist went to: Brett Beattie 1A; Cody Taggart 1A; Adam Galloway 1A; Jeff Laidlaw 1A; Sean Gordon 1A; Brian Yurek 4A. We had solid goal tending from Jerrad Casey and AP Rick Corkum who split all 3 games.

More information regarding all 3 schools is available by clicking the quick links on the Major Midget team page on the STMHA web site.

The Elgin Chrysler Major Midgets return to regular league action Wednesday, December 9th vs. West London and are at home Friday, December 11th vs. Brantford at 7pm.
