A Monumental Comeback
Submitted By ctrumble on Tue 02 28, 12
We started out tentatively and had to overcome a series of penalties.  St. Marys out shot the Stars 12-8 in the first period, largely inpart from being undisciplined.  We were scored upon twice and one of those goals was a St. Marys power play.  St. Thomas had two great chances in the first period but failed to capitalize.

The second period started with the Stars down 2-0 and within a couple of minutes St. Marys jumped on a break away outlet pass, resulting in a early 3-0 lead.  It was not until the halfway point of the middle frame for the Stars to regain some composure, but when they did the momentum was clearly turning our way.   With about 4 minutes left in the 2nd, Cody Howard converted a pass from Josh Chatten and Andrew Wood to get us rolling.  The second period ended with the Stars out shooting St. Marys 12-4 , score 3-1 in their favour.
The third period was totally owned by St. Thomas.  The coaching staff now had the boys attention to detail and the results started to materialize.  Woody (Andrew Wood) scored early, from a Cody Howard pass and it seemed like eternity that the score of 3-2 would stay that way.  About halfway through the final frame, all the boys efforts started to pay off.  Max McVety converted on two goals, the first on a nice pass from Josh Chatten and the second being a totally strong invdividual effort to work his way to the slot and rip a snap shot blocker side, assisted again by Josh Chatten.  The hardest to accomplish but one of the most impressive goals of the night, was when Matt Iachetta positioned himself in front of the net to deflect a Connor Trumble slap shot.  The final goal of the game was quite rewarding for Stevie-Ray Drew.  He worked tirelessly all game and had numerous scoring chances that were thwarted.  A long outlet pass from Connor Trumble to Cody Howard then over to a streaking Drew, put an end to the night and an end to St. Marys hockey season.  Final shots were 38-19, score 6-3 in favour of your St. Thomas Jr. Midget AE team.
Even though we have tonights game against the same St. Marys team in our home and home series, their fate and our placement in the (B) Championships is sealed.  The game tonight is just a formality, win or lose we move on to face Lambeth in the finals.  Our coaching staffs only concern, would be keeping our players from injury or suspension.  Late in last nights game, St. Marys realized their fate and things got ugly. One of our better players might be suspended for the final series because of what transpired.  The coaches are worried this type of hockey and behaviour might carry over to tonights game.  Only time will tell as to what teams will show up for tonights game, so hold your breath everyone and hope all goes well.  Good luck boys in the finals.

A game in which both teams had to win, in order to advance to the Shamrock B Finals.  The officiating again controlled the first two periods and the Stars had to play on their heels for the most part.

100% of all goals scored, are a result of a shot on net.  This is a direct quote from the Great One (99).  As a result of our team grasping this concept, we went on to out shoot our opposition by a 3 to 1 ratio (51-17).If it had not been for ...

First I would like to thank all the boys that came to all the try outs this year. It is never easy having to choose only 2 goalies out of 6 especially when they are all so talented.
