First Testing of the Season
Our first two exhibition games were recently played against the Belmont major team. The coaches were tentative about playing a major team, still in the process of selecting their final roster. We were expecting a rough style of game because of this.
On Sunday afternoon, the boys experienced head shots, now being closely called by the referees. The first period went scoreless, shots on goal were even up. A parade to the penalty box resulted in numerous shots on net and our team going to the 2nd intermission 2 goals down. The third period was the complete opposite. We came out skating hard and converted mid way through the last frame. The boys kept the pressure on, hitting a couple of goal posts but couldn't find the equalizer. Final result was a hard fought 2-1 loss, with 28 shots apiece.
In the second game, just one night later, we were hoping the boys wouldn't be too tired from having played and practiced the day before. After two periods we were out shooting Belmont 17-11. Then it seemed like the wheels fell off, the legs stiffened and mistakes started happening, resulting a 3-0 final in Belmont's favour. There was a lot of line juggling going on in the two games, which will be expected early in the season. Once line and team chemistry starts to develop, the coaches feel confident that this years' team has potential to do well.
