Question: WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU COMBINE
HARD SKATING, PRESSURE AT THE NET, BATTLING FOR THE PUCK AND A SOLID DEFENSE CORE???

Answer: ST THOMAS NOVICE STARS WIN 5 – 1 OVER THE WEST LORNE COMETS!!!!

The NOVICE STARS TEAM got back to regular season play that produced a win over West Lorne, by taking what they learned in practices and applied it to the game.  The boys did all the small things in the right way to outplay the Comets.

Driving hard to the net and skating fast for the puck, passing the puck up the boards, using the open centre of the ice to make a breakout pass, battling in the corners and passing were the keys to this victory.

Great plays just using the simple plans of keeping the puck in the offense zone by the STARS defensive pairing of Ethan Miron and Colton Wiacek kept the pressure in the end by cutting off the puck on the blue line and sending it back towards the net.  Josh Niles and Brady DeDecker also were a strong threat to the Comets as they kept taking their offense players wide in the zone and cutting off the access to the slot.  Mike Roth and Alex Popen made some remarkable breakout stretch passes to the wingers to make a bunch of rushes in the offensive end.  The defense also used the “D” to “D” passes to take control of the game and make the Comets try to rush their plays.

Passing, passing and more passing was the name of the game and the make up of all the STARS forward lines.  Getting the STARS on the board first was the hard rushes and great passing from Jayce Smith, Brennen Smith and Hunter Nurse.  Again, never giving up skating hard on the rush and hard back checking kept the line of Coleton Robison-Sareh, Evan Clarke and Jack Pigram focused on the puck.  They skated every shift with great speed.  The line of Keavan Milmine (1 goal, 3 assists), James Martin (1 goal) and Brennan Bradley (2 goals) were completely unstoppable for the Comets.  Brennan’s goals came again from hard driving to the net and following up the first player in to the net.  Keavan was able to beat the goalie on the wrap around after he battled for control of the puck and jammed it in.

Goaltending was at a great height today.  Maclane Stringle was on his game making the key saves to keep the Comets off the board.  Maclane stood tall in net and was able to trap the puck in the air to stop a goal and had a big skate kick to deflect another.  West Lorne was only able to get one shot past Maclane.

WOW, when the boys come out to play as a STARS TEAM they are always so effective.  The NOVICE STARS led from the first minutes of the game and never rested or never became over confident and never gave up the hard skating and pressure.

WHAT A GREAT EFFORT BY ALL THE TEAM PLAYERS!!!

GO STARS!!!!
