Boys Earn 1st Win Over Navy Vets, 5-1
The Stars welcomed the Woodstock Navy Vets who made the trip to St. Thomas for the two teams first meeting of the 2013-14 season. #4, Jesse Tottle was chomping at the bit (and managed to keep it in his mouth) to start his first game of the regular season.  With some great teamwork and excellent puck movement the Stars took the early lead and never looked back and finished with a 5-1 victory over the Vets.

It was evident in the first period that our boys where not going to go down in defeat for a third straight game.  The scoring started early with Josh Reda scoring his first of four goals on the night off a rebound from a point shot by Ryan Vandenbroek.  Andrew Wood was also awarded an assist on the play.  The second goal came the very next time this trio came on the ice and you would swear you were seeing a highlight real of the first goal, it was frame by frame the same goal as the first.  Zack Smith took the games first penalty for interference and the penalty kill unit was determined to prevent the Navy Vets from any quality chances.  Midway through the first Reda made it 3-0 again from parking himself on front of the net and picking up a rebound from a shot by defenceman Matt Thomas.  Woody was also credited for his 3rd assist of the night.  The Navy Vets frustration was starting to show as one of their players took a 4 minute headshot penalty with 1 minute to go into the first.

The second period started with the remainder of the 4 minute penalty and the power play unit looked good cycling the puck and had several quality chances only to be denied by the Woodstock goaltender.  Minutes after the Woodstock penalty expired Josh Butler scores while in tight from a laser accurate pass from #19 Robert Shaw.  For the 4th and final time of the evening Josh Reda scored, again from a shot that came from the defence, this time Zach Smith drew the assist on the play.

With a 5 goal lead and with no stopping the clock in the third, the victory was only 20 minutes away.  With a short bench do to injury and suspensions I think they were all happy to watch the time tick away.  The only goal in this period was for the Navy Vets who on a giveaway in our own end, ended up in the back of our net.  Although a little fatigued in the third they managed to keep the play in the neutral zone for the remainder of the game and very little offence was created by either team.

Although the Woodstock team only managed 23 shots to our 41, Rogie was solid in net and help the team earn the victory.  There were many boys not on the score sheet that contributed large in tonight's game, and that made it very much a team win.
