PEEWEE AE IMPROVE TEAM PLAY BUT GO 0 FOR 4 AT THE STRATHROY AE TOURNAMENT
The PEEWEE AE STARS got back to team play and worked on the checking and passing game in this weekend’s tournament.  The STARS were up against some experienced and seasoned teams, but battled harder and harder to complete the breakout plays and rush to the net.

Making it to the score sheet this weekend were Cameron Watson, who took the puck into the zone and made a little deak to slide the puck around the goalie.  Tysen Hunter got a cross ice pass from Carson Nurse and Tysen buried a bullet shot over the goalie shoulder.  After weaving thru payers and battling for puck control along the boards, Tysen Hunter passed to an open David Gauthier; David snagged the puck and beat the goalie along the post.  Tyler Cleary scrapped for the puck in front of the net and won the battle for control and stuffed another in.

The STARS goalies both each played 2 games in the series.  Both Matt Beckwith and Chris Wood faced well over a hundred shots each.  Our goalies great performances gave the STARS skaters some great team leadership.  Chris Wood had one heck of a game as he made post to post saves and dove on the puck.  Matt Beckwith also had some great glove saves and some sprawling pad saves that stopped the attacking forwards in their tracks.  All in all combined, the goalies stopped over 95% of the shots on net.

The defense of the PEEWEE AE STARS just keeps getting better and better.  The checking, physical part of the game is really coming on for the boys.  Ash O’Connor and Carson Nurse have really taken to the defensive checking game.  Ash is just a brick wall and Carson is just lining them up into the boards.  Sam Graham had a couple of great end to end rushes to spur on the attacks to the net.  Noah Allen is making the blue line his this year making sure the puck stays in the offensive end.  Corey Fox, Ethan Emick and control the blue line in our end, battling and battling for puck control and using the boards to get clear the puck out.

Josh Levesque has improved his offensive play tremendously this year.  Josh is a constant driving machine right to the net.  Colin Wright has got the right idea, “that puck is mine and I want it”.  Colin is a fiery player, protecting his goalie and gaining puck control into the zone.  Matt McBurney is just setting in as a winger.  Matt has had some great heads up plays, finding the open player to pass to.  Ryan Payne is really starting to come on getting in all the rushes to the net and digging for the puck.  Josh Allen has some great wheels on those skates and is able to maneuver thru players to get the puck moving.

The PEEWEE AE STARS keep building and building upon each game and will be taking these improvements back into the regular season play.

GO STARS!!
