ST THOMAS PEE WEE AE OPEN THE SEASON WITH A HARD FOUGHT WIN
WHAT A WIN!!  WHAT A GAME!!!  WHAT A WIN!!!  The PEE WEE AE TEAM went to Lambeth for the opening game of the season and brought with them a checking and hard driving to the net attitude to come out on top 2 – 1.

Matt Beckwith drew the start in goal and literally played his pads off.  Matt was square and tall to all shooters and had some great reflexes to help his team win.  Even when it looked like a breakaway by Lambeth was going to be a certain goal, Matt ended up being in the right position to stop the puck from being in the back of the net.

The first period ended in a 0 – 0 draw as the defensive play of Noah Allen and Corey Fox took the players wide and into the boards.  Completing and taking checks were all part of this game.  Doing so was Josh Levesque and Matt McBurney who received as well as dished out some very good checks, taking players right out of the play.

Opening up the scoring for the STARS was Tysen Hunter who carried the puck in to their zone, fought off a couple of checks and kept skating  towards the net, deaking the goalie to put it in the short side.  Lambeth tied up the game in the second as the STARS served about 10 minutes in penalties.  Helping out stopping a few for sure goals was Carson Nurse, having a great heads up performance to clear the puck from an open side of the net with three Lambeth players bearing down.  Carson and Sam Graham also played a tight to the blue line defense keeping the puck deep in the offensive end.  Cameron Watson almost ended the 1 – 1 tie, but the Lambeth goalie came up with the bouncing puck.  A couple of minutes later Tyler Cleary sent a high flying back hand shot from the corner which almost eluded the Lambeth goalie.

The third period was completely won by team play and hard fought battles for the puck.  A high flying and hard hitting Colin Wright was everywhere the puck was on the ice and drove hard to the net.  Colin shot a sizzler towards the net, their goalie saved it but gave up a huge rebound and David Gauthier gathered it up and found a way to put it passed the goal line.  Congrats David on getting the game winning goal.  Ryan Payne and Ash O’Conner kept their determination up and chased down players to steal the puck away and turn it back down the opposite end.  While Josh Allen did a lot of back checking to keep the Lambeth players away from the puck.   There was a great scramble for the puck in front of the STARS net as Lambeth pulled their goalie.  Ash O’Connor and Corey Fox kept their ground and tying up all shooters and came up with the puck clearing it out of our end as the seconds fell off the clock ending the game.

With a win on the opening game completed the STARS know they’ll have a lot of hard fought battles to go thru, but with team work and an attitude for hard play and having fun the boys will surly come out with some great hockey games.

GO STARS!!!
