Defeated at Home!
Game 2 saw our boys on home ice facing the Waterloo Wolves.  Waterloo, a strong skating team, was able to keep pressure in our end for most of the game.  Although we fought hard, we were unable to beat back the Wolves who left St. Thomas with an 8-4 victory.

An almost scoreless 1st period saw the Stars hold off the Wolves until the last 2:00 when Waterloo scored twice, the first on a power player, 0:19 seconds apart to end the period with a 2-0 advantage.  Waterloo added another in the 2nd before St. Thomas began to fight back.  Extra efforts in the neutral zone by several of our players helped to relieve pressure in our end, and create a couple of scoring chances, including a slow roller that squeaked under the Waterloo goalie but stopped just short of crossing the goal line.  Russell O. finally put us on the board with an unassisted goal midway through the period.  Still fighting hard, Miles V. accepted a breakout pass from Russell O. before skating the into Waterloo's zone and sending a high wrist shot past their goalie with only 0:09 seconds remaining to make it a one goal contest.

Into the 3rd, it was now down to 1 period and anyone's game.  Waterloo came out strong again, adding another goal 1:28 into the frame.  Tyler M. tallied for St. Thomas two minutes later.  As the final period was shaping up to be a seesaw battle including another Waterloo goal and one by Russell O., his second of the day, it was the Wolves' 2 short handed goals, 0:11 seconds apart, that proved to be our downfall.  The Wolves howled once more before the final buzzer to leave with the 8-4 victory.

Our boys fought very hard against a very good club from Waterloo.  A couple of our shots that beat their goalie but landed just wide could have been all the difference.  Taylor H., playing his first complete game, made many quality saves to keep our guys in it for two and a half periods.  The Minor Atom Stars never quit in a game that was closer then the final score would indicate.

Good work boys and be proud, you never gave up!
