Starting the regular season with a win!!
The Minor Atoms hit the road for their first game of the regular season against the Burlington Bulldogs. Today's contest was nothing short of interesting. And in what started out to be an evenly matched contest, turned into be a solid 4-1 victory for the Stars as the boys stuck to our game plan.
Miles V. opened the scoring just 0:49 seconds into the game after sliding a goal mouth pass from Russell O. past the Bulldog's goalie and into the back of the net. Then both teams got into some penalty trouble with a total of 5 penalties being handed out in the 1st and neither team able to score on the man advantage. Into the 2nd, Burlington scored midway through the period to even the score at 1-1. With less the 2:00 minutes remaining, Miles V. scored unassisted to put us ahead for good.
The 3rd period saw a parade of Burlington players head to the penalty box with 7 infractions being called against our opponents. Half way through the period and facing a 5 on 3 disadvantage, a frustrated Bulldogs' coach sprayed a water bottle onto the ice before being ejected from the game. Miles V. scored his 3rd of the game during our 2 man advantage to give our boys some breathing room. Shortly afterwards, in what was the strangest event of the day, the timekeeper was also ejected from the game for unnecessary language. Miles V. went on to score his fourth goal to seal the victory for the Stars with a little more then 6:00 remaining.
Russell O. totalled 2 helpers, Brett C. played a strong game in net and Drake H. continues to build confidence on the blue line.
