Minor Atom undefeated against Amherstburg!
Our Minor Atom team faced the Amherstburg Stars in a home and home exhibition challenge over the weekend.  With the memory of being eliminated after losing 3 straight games to Amherstburg in last season's OMHA playdowns, our guys were looking for revenge and they found it with back to back wins to finish their pre-season play 3-0-0.

Game 1 on Saturday afternoon saw us fall behind 1-0 mid way through the 1st period.  With less the 3:00 remaining, Brad V, playing his first game in over a year at centre, walked out from the corner to beat Amherstburg's goalie and even the score at 1.  Less then a minute later, Russell O. put us ahead after receiving a zone clearing pass from Tristan C.  Chase C. capitalized on a power play in the 2nd with a shot from the point finding the back of the net which proved to be the winner.  Amherstburg scored again to come with 1 before goals by Miles V. and Tyler M. secured the win for St. Thomas.  A scoreless 3rd period thanks to solid defensive play by Ian W. and Luka D.  Drake H. followed suit while playing his first game on the blue line in quite some time by showing great confidence with puck control and position.

Our team celebrated our 2nd victory of the preseason with a team supper before returning to the Timken Centre to watch the London Knight vs. the Plymouth Whalers in OHL exhibition play.

Game 2 of the challenge was back in Amherstburg on Sunday morning.  Eager to show our opponents our game one victory wasn't a fluke, we jumped out to a 3 goal lead before Amherstburg spoiled the shutout late in the 2nd when a breakaway shot deflected off Brett C.'s trapper and into our net.  Tyler M. and Russell O. recorded their first hat tricks of the season with Russell scoring a 4th as we soundly defeated our hosts 7-1.  Brad G. and JD J. had very strong games defensively and are quickly building their confidence on the blue line.

With our third win, we finished our preseason with a perfect 3-0-0 record.  Job well done by everyone.  Keep up the great work!!!
