Welcome Players & Parents
Novice A Tryouts 2014-2015
Please read this article for important information regarding tryouts for Novice A. Tryouts are right around the corner and the season will start shortly after! All tryout dates are listed on the tryout schedule as well as on the team calendar. Please be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to tryouts to sign in and receive a jersey. For exhibition games please arrive 45-60 minutes before puck drop in order to get dressed and allow the coaches 10 minutes with the players before they hit the ice.
Prior to Tryouts
1) All Players must be registered with STMHA in order to tryout.
2) Starting this year,
ALL families must have at least one parent complete the Respect In Sport for parents on line course. Please have this completed
BEFORE tryouts, as it is required in order for the player to be eligible for the team.
3) All players must attend at least two out of the three 1.5 hour tryouts in order to be eligible. I strongly recommend that players attend all three. There are also two exhibition games as part of tryouts in order to see the players perform in game situations. The first is
IN INGERSOLL ON SEPTEMBER 5TH and all players trying out are expected to attend. The second is listed on the website and is
Invite Only. All players eligible for the second game will be posted on the website after the last tryout.
4) Players are expected to bring their own water bottle and mouth guards are mandatory.
Individual Player Evaluations
The Novice A coaches believe in a philosophy of hard work, positive attitude and team play. These will be key character traits we will be looking for from players on the ice and in the dressing room during our tryout process. Please bring everything you've got to every tryout.
Players will be evaluated in:
Skills: Skating, Stick Handling, Shooting, Passing
Character: Effort, Drive, Focus, Hustle, Heart, Aggression, and Commitment.
Hockey Sense/Knowledge: Positional play with
AND without the puck, play making, awareness.
Goaltender Evaluations
Goaltenders are expected to exhibit the same qualities as the rest of the players trying out. Evaluators will be looking for the drive to try their best on every shot they face. Goaltenders will also be evaluated on position specific skills such as Speed, Agility, Reflexes, Puck Control and Rebound Control as well as game awareness, focus and concentration while not facing shots.
I will keep this page up to date with information for players throughout the tryout process. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at

Good Luck and HAVE FUN!
