Mt Brydges
Our Atom AE travelled to Mt Brydges on Sunday for a tough game against the league leading Cougars.The boys played them hard, and although the final ended up 6-1 for them, we kept this one close for two periods.
Mt Brydges scored the only goal of the first, thanks in large part to Markus Thompson who made save after save, and kept us in it. The team responded and tied it at one in the second when Darryn Olyschlager fired one past the Cougar's keeper, assisted by Sam Mogk and Mile Ostojic. Admittedly, I was a little surprised to be tied with this team halfway through the game, but our boys were playing hard, and did not look nearly as overwhelmed by them as we have in games past. Unfortunately, we had a little lapse in intensity late in the second and Mt Brydges netted two quick ones to close out the period.
The Cougars added another early in the third on an unlucky break that ended up in our net. I was told this game was curfewed, and at the time the game should have been over the score was 4-1, which was a really great game for us against a very dominant team. It seems that when we have needed that extra few minutes this year, curfew has been called right on the dot, but this time they let it roll and they added another two when the game was actually over. So the scoresheet reads 6-1, but in my mind we played them to a 4-1 decision. It really doesn't matter much, but it just sounds better.(lol) Good job gang!
