Season Opener

Dang it! I knew I should have started my write ups after the Tillsonburg win. LOL Our Atom AE Stars started the regular season at home Saturday against the Port Stanley Sailors, and really took it on the chin.

Wait a minute, did someone give us the "A" teams schedule. No, no, it says they are in our league??? Hmmm, I guess if you subtract a couple of exceptional hockey players off their roster, they're an AE team. In this league if you have a player that can go end to end at will and score you really have something, when you have two, you get what happened today. Especially when they are only a two line team, and one of them is always on the ice. Hey, it is what it is, I'm pretty sure that they will do that to most of the teams in this league. It was unfortunate that we drew them to start off the year, but at least it's over and done with.

On the bright side, the line of Ethan Bradley, Jared Parkin, and Liam Armstrong continued their strong play from preseason and scored both of our goals. Jared got our first, assisted by Bradley and Liam, and Bradley got our second assisted by Jared and Liam off of a nice rush. We actually tied them in the curfew shortened third period, so rather than quitting and giving up the boys actually started to play them tougher in the third, after we had a little chuckle at the bench between the periods about how badly this game was going. The bottom line is that we played against a "rep" team. I think we would have held our own, if not for the two terrific hockey players who certainly do not belong in AE hockey. It's not their fault, they are just kids playing hockey, and I do not want to come across as a whiner. We head off to Petrolia tomorrow, which should give us a better indication of where we stand early in this season. If it's 14-2 tomorrow, the league may be accepting applications for an Atom AE head coach.lol

What do you do after a 14-2 loss in the season opener? Well you roll in to Petrolia and put in 11 of our own and cruise to a nice rebound 11-1 win. We had 10 different players score goals, and every line contributed to the offensive explosion.

The final tryout on Saturday will be a green on white game. This will give the coaches a final look at the players in game situations before we make our final tough decisions.
