West Lorne
Our Atom AE boys headed out to West Lorne for a Saturday late afternoon tilt against the Comets, and since it doesn't look like we are going to see any Saturday night hockey for the foreseeable future, we had better do our best to entertain our parents and ourselves on these boring Saturday nights. Hey, maybe the Kardashians' are on. lol

I found myself wondering at the start of this year where I was going to find some offence to replace my two leading scorers who we lost this year. Well, I guess the answer to that question is, from everybody! The boys lit it up again in a 9-2 win, with 7 different goal scorers, and 8 kids with at least one assist. It is very nice to be behind the bench when you can put out any five of your players and have a chance to score. Again, there were too many goals to break down individually, but the scorers were Tyler Lewis 2, Jared Parkin 2, Owen Wookey, Ethan Bradley, Liam Armstrong, Jamie Koroscil, and Lucas Glanville. The assists went to Ethan Georgijev 2, Owen Wookey 2, Tyler Johnston 2, Lucas Glanville, Zach Mertick, Jamie Koroscil, Tyler Lewis, and an honourable mention to Liam Armstrong with 4, mostly due to his relentless forecheck. He was a buzz saw out there all game long, and put up 5 points to show for his efforts. Andrew Valdez got the win in net, and again our Dmen did not give up a lot of shots, but when this game was still close, Andrew made some big saves to keep momentum on our side. I don't think we scored 20 goals until game 15 last year, and the fact that we have only given up three is equally impressive.

This was not as easy a game as the final score would suggest, as it was only 3-1 going into the third. I hope our boys are starting to realize that when we PASS THE PUCK, we can be a very explosive team. Last year we had trouble making a 2 foot pass at times, this year we have scored some highlight reel goals with well thought out and executed passing plays. It has been a dream start to the season going 2-0, ( oh yah Port Stanley got bumped back to "rep" and our game didn't count so it has been erased from the record and I really don't want to talk about it anymore because I get myself in trouble so let's move on), but we will have to improve game by game to keep this thing rolling along. There are some strong teams in this league, and finally, finally I think we are going to be one of them. These boys have paid their dues over the past few years, so to see a little bit of swagger as they walk into the dressing room before a game gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

Each game we give out a "golden glove" award for player of the game, chosen by the previous game's winner. Owen Wookey got it after game 1, and he awarded it today to Jamie Koroscil. He had a stellar game on defence covering up for my loose cannon son who happens to be his defence partner, and topped it off with a goal and an assist. Really great game Jamie, and to all the boys. We have a tough test next weekend when Mount Brydges comes to town, so let's have a good week of practices, and let's get number 3.
