ST THOMAS PEEWEE AE STARS COME TO PLAY
AND BEAT PETROLIA OILERS 6-0 IN THE SEASON HOME OPENER

WHAT A GREAT TEAM! WHAT A GREAT TEAM EFFORT!!  The PEEWEE AE boys start the season with dominance, and the desire to win and play as a TEAM to outlast their opponents on the scoreboard.  The home opener had everything for the STARS FANS to cheer for; passing, hard skating to the net, reliance on their team mates, oh and did I mention SHOOTING AND SCORING.  Pucks flew at the Petrolia net from all centres, wingers and defensemen.  The STARS were ready for opening day.

Recording his first SHUTOUT of the season; Chris Wood stood his ground against all who approached the net.  Chris reached out a snagged the puck on a breakaway attempt by the Oilers wingers as they came at him from both sides.  He used a sprawling kick pad save to deflect another puck from the net as the forwards shot from the hash marks.  Woody was definitely on his game today, focusing on nothing but the puck and his net.  Chris celebrated at the end of the game, rushing towards the bench giving his mates high fives.

Zack Banks started the scoring for the STARS and added two more to the scoreboard, getting his first HAT TRICK of the season.  The Petrolia goalie could only see a black blur as Zack unleashed several wicked wrist shots, and blasted each shot into the net.  Zack was able to get three goals in the game with help from his line.  Just as a penalty to the STARS expired, Jake Gillis skated around a defenseman and feathered a pass to the side of the net for the first.  Noah Dos Santos fed the puck past two defensemen to the front of the net for the second and for the third, Josh Hare battled for puck control along the boards and the side of the net and passed to the far open side.  Sam Graham and David DaCosta teamed together on” D” to own the STARS blue line in the first period.  While keeping the puck out of our end, Sam passed up the wing to Josh Hare, Josh lifted a shot that just floated and breezed past the goalie shoulder and to the back of the net.

TEAMWORK and COMMITMENT are the strength of these boys.  The PEEWEE AE STARS have a great penalty kill effort on the ice and it will be a great weapon for this year’s squad.  The STARS team took a few penalty calls but not once did they give up a goal being one or two men down.  Strength, speed and the heart to play are in the heart of the players.  Adding to the penalty kill today, Caden Beshara and Carson Nurse are a great defensive pairing, stopping rushes by the Oilers and taking the man wide to the boards.  Taking advantage of his great speed and puck handling while on the penalty kill; Noah Dos Santos broke out of our zone shorthanded, streaked down the ice to beat all in front and backhanded to the top corner of the net.  Noah got another on the day as two of the feistiest players on the ice; Cameron Douglas and Joey Hardy made play after play.  Joey was buzzing all over the Oiler’s net and made a cross ice pass over to the side to Cameron who set Noah up while he battled for the puck on the end boards and scooped it towards the front.  Cameron and Joey also are two hard working players who are two great diggers on the team.  They really frustrate the opposition goalie and defence making them turn over the puck and control to them.

Ryan Payne has got to be the face off wizard of the team.  Draw after draw, Ryan won all but one, giving his team control of the puck and direction to the net on each play.  Wingers, Sam Hardy and Denys Reid have great ice intuition and are able to read where the puck is headed.  Sam and Denys created plays rushing to the Petrolia end giving the fans some great on edge cheering moments in the game.  As the third period was winding down, Petrolia was trying to end their goose egg in scoring, but Ash O’Connor and Noah Allen dished out the punishment to any forward that came towards the STARS end.  The end boards swayed with some strong force being applied to them.

Not only are the PEEWEE AE boys playing as a dedicated TEAM and playing with heart, but you can really tell they are having FUN doing it.

CONGRATS BOYS FOR THE FIRST OF MANY WINS THIS SEASON!!

YOU REALLY GAVE THE FANS SOMETHING TO CHEER FOR TODAY!

GO STARS!!!
