Major Midgets Say Goodbye and Thank You
Another hockey season has come and gone.  The Major Midgets had an unpleasant end to their 2010/11 season, losing in overtime of game 5 in round 2 against Amherstberg.  The series was tied and had been a back and forth battle between the 2 well matched teams.  Sadly it was a repeat of last season against the same team under the same circumstances.  After eliminating St. Thomas last year, Amherstberg went on to win the OMHA final and lost in the finals of the OHF playoffs.  We were hoping to stand in their way this year, but it wasn’t in the cards.

In spite of a disappointing finish, the Major Midgets had another great season!  The STMHA Major Midget program is designed to provide our senior players with the opportunity to finish their minor hockey careers at home while experiencing some unique bonuses.  This program is enjoyed and appreciated by all players and parents and should be something that the younger players look forward to.

The end of the season for any team is always bitter sweet, while we look forward to the other activities that spring will bring… we are sad to say goodbye to our team mates and will miss the weekly (sometimes daily) gatherings at our arena.  This is especially true for the Major Midget team because the end of the season also marks the end of the minor hockey lives for the graduating players.  Some of these boys have spent the last 12 years wearing STMHA jerseys and it is hard to say goodbye.  This year the following players will be added to our list of STMHA alumni:  Brett Beattie - Captain; Brad Holder; Adam Fisher; Travis Verkade; Sean Gordon - Asst Captain; Luke McGuire; Chad Cote; Ryan Gilson and Jerrad Casey.  We wish these young men all the best in their futures.  Some will be going on to post secondary school in the fall, others will returning for a ‘victory lap’ and some may be going on to play junior hockey at some level.  We have watched this group of boys grow into great young men and we are very proud of them… and we look forward to seeing what great things they accomplish in their futures.

On behalf of the players, coaching staff and parents of the 2010/11 Major Midgets we would like to thank STMHA for providing us with the opportunity for another great season, and we wish all of the remaining teams luck in their play downs and play offs!

GO STARS GO!!
