Stars win opener
The Maxwell's Cameras/Ansells' Awards midget AE team opened their OMHA playdowns with a 5-2 victory against LaSalle Sunday at the Timken Center. Cody Gooding scored the first goal of the game with LaSalle tying the game by the end of the first period. The Stars opened a 3-1 lead by the end of the second period with goals from Brad Holder and Jacob Perfect. Jacob Vader and Brad Holder with an empty net goal rounded out the scoring for St. Thomas. Spencer Verkade was strong in net for the Jr. Stars and Ryan Gilson as well on the forward line. Coach Walter Molinaro said it was the best all around game the team had played this season. Game 2 is at LaSalle Friday night. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
