Stars advance to round two

The Maxwell's Cameras/Ansell's Awards midget AE team defeated LaSalle 7-2 Friday night in LaSalle to win their preliminary OMHA playdown series six points to two. The Stars appeared focused and determined to put the series away from the start of the game with Braden Hellems opening the scoring less than two minutes into the first period. Jacob Perfect added another goal shortly after and Connor Farrell gave the Stars a three goal lead before LaSalle scored one of their own to round out first period scoring.
Garrett Nudds scored the only goal of the second period and Jacob Vader's goal five minutes into the third period gave the Stars a 5-1 lead that all but put the game away. LaSalle added one more before Vader and Perfect each added their second of the game to finalize the scoring. St. Thomas looked particularly strong in their own end throughout the game. Coach Walt Molinaro credited his defence consisting of Hellems, Cody Hodgson, Tom Black and Jon Liebregts and goaltender Spencer Verkade of playing a strong game. The schedule for round two has yet to be announced.
