MINOR MIDGET STARS WIN SILVER STICK !!!
Submitted By tjohnston on Tue 11 10, 15
The St.Thomas Minor Midget Stars hockey team travelled to Owen Sound to compete in an International Silver Stick qualifier tournament.

The Stars were in tough as their 1st game was against the 3rd best ranked team in Ontario, the Oakville Rangers.
St.Thomas came out quick and scored just 14 seconds into the game. The Rangers finally woke up and poured on the pressure scoring 2 goals in the 2nd period. The Stars hung in with some strong goaltending and never quit. Finally St.Thomas scored with 7 minutes in the 3rd. Final score was 2-2 draw.

Game 2: St.Thomas played Orangeville Flyers. St.Thomas took advantage of a Flyers 5 minutes penalty in the 1st period and scored 2 power play goals. However Orangeville settled in and responded with 2 goals in the 2nd period. The Stars kept the pressure and took advantage of the lack of discipline from Orangeville. Final score was 5-3 St.Thomas.

Game 3: The Stars faced Ontario's 11th seed Aurora Tigers.  The Stars scored with just 4 seconds left in the 1st period. That was all they needed as once again solid goaltending and defense shut the door on the Tigers. St.Thomas went on to win 4-0.

Finals: In the finals the Stars met up with the Woolwich Wildcats. Woolwich made the finals by beating host Owen Sound. They also beat Barrie and tied Milton. St.Thomas struggled for the first 2 periods. The Stars created very little offense and had to battle alot in their own end. After 2 periods of play the Stars were down 2-0. With only 15 minutes to play they knew their backs were against the wall, but possibly only 2 shots away from evening the score.  Just 2 minutes into the 3rd the Stars made it 2-1. Strong goaltending once again kept things close and with 2:48 seconds left, St.Thomas tied things up. That 2nd goal took alot of the wind out of the sails of the Wildcats. Next was O.T. The comeback was complete, as the Stars scored 4 minutes into the overtime period. Strong team discipline helped the Stars. St.Thomas only had 8 penalties in total for 4 games.

What a great weekend! The parents prepared a terrific pot luck dinner Friday night. The team went and watched an OHL game on the Saturday night. Then the team put together an unbelievable comeback to win. This tournament win qualifies the St.Thomas team into the International Silver Stick Tournament held in Newmarket Jan 14th-17th.

Way to go boys!!!
