St Thomas Country Charm Atom Major Jr Stars WIN the Big Bear Tournament in Ann Arbor!
On Saturday February 14, 2015 the St Thomas Country Charm Atom Major Jr Stars began their tournament battle at Yost arena in Ann Arbor Michigan. They were defeated by the Erie North Shore Storms 3-0. After a hard fought game, Dalton Vlasman took player of the game. That same afternoon the Stars faced off against the Cincinnati Swords and knocked them off with an impressive 8-4 victory. Owen McIntyre scored two, Mathew Carr also bulged the twine twice, Braylen Dowson, Quinntin Gocan, Ryder Laur and Tanner McGregor each potted a goal. Stars defensemen Ryan Jeffery, Tavis Morgan, Josh Vigars, Dalton Vlasman and Nolan Tales played really strong on the back end and forward Tanner McGregor received player of the game.
Sunday February 16, the boys faced the Fectuea Bulldogs from Sault Ste Marie. The Stars took the bite out of the Bulldogs defeating them 5-1. Scoring for the Stars were, Ryder Laur, Liam Kidder and Aiden Holder who each notched a goal and Trent Rickwood scored two goals. Forward Trent Rickwood received player of the game. This win meant the Stars were headed to the finals on Monday February 17, 2015. In the final game of the tournament, the Stars faced-off against the team that defeated them in the first game of the tournament and knocked them out of the OMHA play-offs; the Erie North Shore Storm. Aiden Holder put the Stars on the board getting the first goal of the game, but the Storm came back strong to tie it up. Then defensemen Nolan Tales scored with a shot from the point to take the lead and the Storm scored again to tie the game. The Stars battled hard and won each shift a play at a time. At the end of regulation it was a tied game. After two rounds of over-time, the game was still tied and went to a shoot-out. Mike Devine was outstanding; only letting one goal cross the crease! Liam Kidder, Trent Rickwood and Nolan Tales scored in the shoot out to give the Stars a 3-2 win over Erie North Shore! Nolan Tales got player of the game and goaltender Mike Devine received game MVP awarded by the officials. Head coach Rick Tales was so proud of his team that he celebrated by performing a backspin and the “worm” across the ice. Steve Wright, Tyler McGregor and Chris Holder all deserve a special mention for coaching the team to a win! This win by the Stars was hard fought and well-deserved, the Stars played as a team and won as a team. Way to go St Thomas Country Charm Atom Major Jr Stars!
