The St. Thomas Stars atom AE team came home Sunday with a silver medal after a successful weekend in Detroit.
The Stars lost 2-1 in a shootout thriller against the BCH Icedogs.
After losing 6-3 to the Icedogs in pool play the day before, the Stars faced them again in the final, determined to make it up.
The first period ended scoreless with numerous scoring chances on both ends.
The 'Dogs bit first to make it 1-0 but Tyler Johnston tied the game with a wide-angle shot which fooled the BCH goalie.
Ethan Giles played an outstanding game in goal for St. Thomas, robbing the Icedogs several times.
Both defences cleared pucks off the goal line and the third ended tied 1-1.
Four-on-four overtime solved nothing.
In the shootout, Owen Wookey, Ethan Bradley and Jared Parkin did their best but could not beat the Icedogs' tournament MVP goalie.
St. Thomas moves back to league play this week, taking on the Dorchester Dragons Saturday at the Timken Centre.
