The Novice Stars kicked off the Thanksgiving weekend on the road at the Tri Township arena in Mount Brydges. The Stars out shot the Cougars and controlled the majority of the play but came up short in a 5-4 loss.
The first period was quiet on the score sheet but things opened up quickly in the 2nd stanza. The Cougars went up 2-nil with goals at 7:58 and 5:05 before Liam Kidder got the visitors on the board with a goal assisted by Owen McIntyre and Nolan Tales. The Cougars cashed in again with 34 seconds left in the period.
Kidder tallied again for the Stars with just under 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd and then Owen McIntyre found the back of the net 15 seconds later to knot the score at 3-3.
The end of the game was fast and furious with 3 even strength goals inside the 2 minute warning. The Cougars took the lead at 1:59 before Aiden Holder clawed the Stars back into a tie 23 seconds later assisted by Trent Rickwood.
Unfortunately for the visiting Stars the Cougars took the lead for good at he 0:39 mark.
The Stars are back in action against the Dragons of Dorchester at 12 noon on Sunday at the Timken Center.
