September 7th ,2010.
It feels like yesterday.
Together as a team for 208 days, together through memories forever. The Bantam AE Stars wrapped up their season on Saturday April 2nd as they took the ice together for the final time. A season of highs and lows now behind them, but a lifetime of memories forever etched.
When you first assemble a team you never know what to expect. You see the outline, but the colour just isn't quite there. Little by little the picture takes shape. Little by little you become a family.
Good times shared tell the true story of a season. Stats and overall records are just numbers people can view, what can't be viewed is the bond within a dressing room. You have to be there to witness it. Sure winning is fun, nobody has to explain that in a team sport, but fun is also knowing you are a family. I feel this team IS a family.
Entering the season, we had 3 rookie coaches. All non-parent coaches. Those 3 coaches now have an extended family. The 17 kids in that room became our family. Your kids, became our kids. I speak for all the coaches when I say I will miss that family. We all coach because we love the game and we hope we allowed your kids to love the game as well. Our coaching philosophy remains unchanged. Minor Hockey is a series of Life Lessons.
I won't dwell on stats or overall achievements of this season. To me they are not what I'll remember. I will remember the bond that 17 kids formed. The laughs we all shared. The pride we all displayed wearing that Stars jersey.
Hopefully everyone takes the same memories of this season forward with them. Look back on them from time to time, I know I will.
