U13AA/A Tryouts - Expectations and Details
Players and families,

Tryouts for the U13AA team in St. Thomas begin tomorrow, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone bring their best effort and compete for a spot on the team. Below are the details and expectations for the tryout process:

  • Tryout Schedule:

    • First Skate: Saturday May 3, 2:00–4:00 PM at Memorial Arena.

      • Players will be divided into two groups, and you will receive an email today letting you know what time you are expected to attend.  If you do not receive an email from me by 8:00 PM Friday, May 2, please contact me at 226.268.7901.

      • Pennies will be provided, and both groups will play a game during their session.

      • We will release players Saturday night, and will notify all those players who are released and those continuing to the next tryout by email no later than 10:00 PM Saturday evening.

    • Second Skate: Sunday May 4, 2:00-4:00 PM at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.

      • All players continuing in the tryout will attend both hours.

      • The first hour will be battle drills and small area games.

      • The second hour will be a game.

      • Pennies will be provided

  • Selection Process:

  • We expect to finalize our roster by Sunday evening.

  • Evaluation Criteria:

    • Independent evaluators will be present at all evaluations and will assess players based on:

      • Individual skill

      • Compete and effort level

      • Playmaking ability

  • What We’re Looking For:

    • Players should focus on what they can control this weekend - compete, effort level, and moving the puck. Our team’s success has been built on playing as a five-man unit and moving the puck effectively as a team. We are looking for players who complement our style of play.

    • This is a competitive tryout, and players will be evaluated head-to-head for a spot on the team. Bring your best effort, play hard, and showcase how you can contribute to our team’s success.

    • I understand this can be a challenging time for players and families.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss tryouts, feel free to reach out to me at 226.268.7901.  Per the OHF directive, please do not reach out prior to May 3rd.

    • I look forward to an exciting and competitive tryout!
