MINOR PEEWEE TRYOUTS

WELCOME PLAYERS AND PARENTS

MINOR PEEWEE 2014 TRYOUTS

The first tryouts for Minor Peewee are quickly approaching.  Please read this article for important information regarding the tryouts. All dates for each tryout are listed on the team’s website.  Click on the team calendar for all the details.  Please arrive at tryouts at least 30 minutes prior, to sign in and receive a jersey.  I would like the opportunity to meet each player prior to them hitting the ice.

PRIOR TO TRYOUTS:

1)      All players must be registered with St Thomas Minor Hockey prior to stepping on the ice.

2)      This year the Minor Peewee team can select up to 3 NRP’s (Non-Resident Player).  All NRP’s need to ensure they have the proper paperwork completed.  If you have any questions please contact the STMHA office or your home centre for details.

3)      All players must ensure that at least one parent has completed the Respect in Sports online course.  Please do this BEFORE tryouts start as this needs to be completed in order to be eligible to make the team.

4)      All players will attend three 1.5 hour tryouts.  After that, there are a couple of INVITE ONLY exhibition games, all players eligible for these games will be posted on the website.  It is mandatory that you attend at least 2 of the 3 tryouts to be eligible.  I strongly encourage you to make all three.

INDIVIDUAL EVALUATIONS

Players will be evaluated on the following aspects:

1)      Hockey Skills: skating, speed, passing, shooting, stick handling

2)      Personal Skills:  effort, focus, commitment, listening, drive and determination

3)      Hockey senses:  positional play, play without the puck, creativity, aggressiveness

This team is looking for players committed to hard work, focus and team play.  Behaviour in the dressing room during tryouts will be monitored as well.

GOALTENDER EVALUATIONS

Goaltenders will be evaluated on skating, agility, reflexes, rebound control, angles, puck handling.  As with other players, goalies will be also evaluated on compete levels, effort, focus and their drive and determination to stop every puck.

Evaluations will be completed by 5-7 independent individuals that will be present at each tryout.

All players need to provide their own water bottle and mouth guards are mandatory.

Players advancing through each phase of the tryouts will be posted on the website.   If you have any questions prior, during or after the tryouts, please contact me at [email protected] .

GOOD LUCK TO ALL PLAYERS!!!
