Great Opening Weekend
The Major Bantam Jr. Stars did their part taking 3 of 4 points from Amherstburg in the inaugural Robert Pilon-Butch Howey Memorial tournament this weekend.
Game 1 in St.Thomas on Saturday found St.Thomas up 3-0 heading into the 3rd. Unfortunately some tired legs and a few bad bounces let the team from Amherstburg back in. End result? St.Thomas held on for a 3-3 tie.
Game 2 in Amherstburg on Sunday was a much different affair. Amherstburg got an early lead with a goal in the 1st but St.Thomas battled back and finished the 2nd up 4-2. St.Thomas wasn't about to let the Stars from Amherstburg back into this one. Some spirited hockey from both teams in the 3rd but no scoring. End result? First 'W' of the season. Good job Stars!
Tournament - both centres ended the weekend with a record of 7-7-2 but Amherstburg gained the right to be the 1st ones with their name on the trophy based on a 53-52 goals for edge. Congratulations Amherstburg!
