Stars fail to wrap up series
With a chance to advance to the second round in their OMHA playdowns, the Maxwell's Cameras/Ansell's Awards midget AE team hosted LaSalle at the Memorial arena Sunday and came up short losing 2-1. LaSalle scored early in the third period to take a 2-0 lead but Chad Cote pulled the home team back within one 22 seconds later. The Jr. Stars created numerous chances but were unable to score the tying goal.
Coach Walt Molinaro commented after the game that his team just wasn't getting the bounces. Spencer Verkade played well in net keeping the Stars in the game and Tom Black also earned the praises of Molinaro for his play. The Jr. Stars will travel to LaSalle Friday for the pivotal game four of the series. In regular season action St. Thomas will host Strathroy on Wednesday at the Timken Center at 8:45 p.m.
