OMHA 2013 Developing Defensemen Symposium
Thursday, May 02, 2013 Richmond Hill, ON:

The OMHA has announced details for its upcoming Skating Symposium scheduled on May 25, 2013 in St. Mary’s, Ontario.

As part of the OMHA’s Coaches Symposium Series, this one-day symposium includes the Hockey Canada Developing Defensemen Specialty Clinic and will feature guest speaker Chris Hajt, Assistant Coach and Assistant to the General Manager of the OHL Guelph Storm.

Chris Hajt was the second round, 32nd overall selection of the Edmonton Oilers in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and retired from pro hockey after a 10 year career that saw him play in the NHL with brief stops in Edmonton and Washington. The two-time Storm Captain and MVP also played in the AHL, ECHL, German Elite League, Finnish National League and Italian Premier League.

The sessions will engage the participant through classroom, video and on-ice sessions.

By teaching defensemen the fundamentals of skating, puck control, passing & positional play they will enjoy the position more, because they will have more success and therefore more fun. The topics covered are: Skating, 1v1 Defense, Defending the Rush and Offensive Tactics.

The Coach Specialty Clinic Program is part of the OMHA Continuing Education Program [CEP] and has been designed to act as a supplementary coach education program to that of the Hockey Canada Coach Mentorship Program. Participation at the symposium carries a value 20 credit points which can be used towards coach certification renewal.
