It is Second Round OMHA Playdowns for the Bantam AE
Submitted By marco valdez on Sunday, February 07, 2010
In what ended up being a nerve-racking game, the Bantam AE Stars defeated the Riverside Rangers to win their ticket to the second round of the OMHA playdowns. It was back and forth with very good chances at both ends of the ice and high level saves by both net minders but the Stars came on top with a final score of 2-1.

The first goal came quick in the very first shot of the game, with a bullet to the corner, shot by #8 Mark Lewis assisted by #5 Andrew Wood. The score stayed this way right until 4 minutes to go in the game when #16 from the Riverside Rangers scored to tie the game.

After a couple of crossbar shots by St. Thomas, they finally got into a scramble in front of the Riverside net minder that ended up when #18 Brian Vanbelois put the puck in the net for the game and series winner assisted by #4 Ethan Clunas.

In net for St. Thomas, #1 Marco Valdez stopped 26 shots by the Riverside snipers to seize the win.

This first OMHA playdown series was a hard battle all the way where both teams fought for every puck and right to the last second of every one of the 5 games. The first game was won by St. Thomas with a score of 2-1. The second game was all-Riverside with a final score of 8-2. In the third game St. Thomas beat Riverside in their nest 3-1. Riverside returned the “favour” to St. Thomas in the fourth game with a score of 2-1 for Riverside at Memorial Arena. This set up the right conditions for a decisive game five in St. Thomas where the Stars finally came with the upper hand with a score of 2-1.

Congratulations boys for this OMHA big win!

Go St. Thomas!!
