Novice A Stars are Boston Pizza Cup Finalists
This past weekend the Novice A Stars represented St. Thomas at the Boston Pizza Cup held here in St. Thomas.
We opened the tournament on Friday with a strong game against Fort Erie. Our offense finally kicked in and we came away with a 8-0 win. On Saturday morning, in our second game, we ran up against a strong Riverside Rangers team and dropped a 6-3 decision. We bounced back in the afternoon against a tough Lincoln Blades team and worked hard to gain a tough 1-1 tie. In our final game of the round robin portion of the tournament Sunday morning, we ran into the undefeated Guelph Gryphons. Coming into the game, we needed a win, and to win by 4. We played our best game of the season, and pulled out a full team effort 6-2 win.
In the semi-final game against Erie North Shore, the team was able to play a complete end to end game of team defense, and skated to a well earned 4-1 win. That win set up a re-match with the Riverside Rangers in the final. The team fell behind early, and had a tough time recovering. The kids worked hard and never gave up, right until the final whistle, but couldn't pull it out. Final score was 7-3.
Overall a good weekend for the kids. They worked hard and worked as a team. The Novice A Stars continue their regular season with their sights set on building on the experience of the weekend.
Great job boys!!
