SLUSHIES FOR EVERYONE!!!!
Submitted By dale nurse on Monday, January 10, 2011
The ST THOMAS NOVICE STARS came back on Sunday to beat the Lucan Irish 5 – 0, after losing Saturday to the Mt. Brydges Cougars 2 – 5.

On Saturday playing against Mt Brydges the STARS came out a little slow and didn’t execute their hard skating plays and basically the Cougars outplayed the STARS.  Goalie; Ryan Bonter faced wave after wave of attack and kept the STARS in the game.  Ryan was able to snag some close ones right out of the air.  The STARS had their chances to come back in this game, but the power play could not take advantage and the Mt. Brydges goalie was able to stop all.  Getting the STARS to the score sheet was Brady DeDecker.

Brady thru a flittering puck towards the net and caught a screened Cougars goalie by surprise as he watched the puck slide by the goal line.  Brennen Smith was able to break the Mt. Brydges defense and sprint to the net but was denied by the quick actions of their goalie.  With a free- for-all scramble in front of the Cougars net in the third, Jack Pigram; with assists by Coleton Robison-Sareh and Evan Clarke; was able to smack the second goal in for the NOVICE team.

The NOVICE STARS got back to being themselves on Sunday and what a terrific game it was.  The powerhouse STARS TEAM was completely in control and beat the Lucan Irish 5 – 0.  Getting another well earned shut out in net, Maclane Stringle used his glove, blocker, and quick moves to stop all attacks.  It really looked like Lucan was going to make it to the score board on a breakaway, but Maclane came out and cut down the angle and scooped up the puck.

Hunter Nurse got the STARS on the board first.  Hunter grabbed the rebound shot from Keavan Milmine and back handed it in the far top corner.  The play was tighter for the rest of the first period as forwards battled with defense for control of the puck.  Ethan Miron and Colton Wiacek kept the pressure up for the STARS defense.  Controlling the play on the blue line for the STARS; this pair makes a great defensive threat to any team.  Josh Niles was having some fun out there making the Irish turn over pucks and then he fed them to the pressuring STARS forwards.

In the second period, it was all ST THOMAS STARS who pressured for four more goals.  On a break out play from James Martin and Keavan; Brennan Bradley was able to light up the Irish goalie for the second of the game.  Skating up the wing, Mike Roth found Jack Pigram and completed the stick to stick pass.  Jack took it in and placed it exactly in the back of the net.  Giving the STARS TEAM a 4-0 lead, Hunter battled and won control for the puck in the corner and passed to Jayce Smith as Jayce was walking up Main Street ST THOMAS heading straight for the net.  Jayce made quick work of the puck and wristed a knuckler past the frustrated Lucan goalie.  The well oiled defense play of Alex Popen made the Lucan’s forwards rush plays and he was able to take advantage and turn the puck around.   James Martin was able to make a quick pass over to Keavan Milmine and Keavan was able to squeeze another in on the short side.  Keavan had a great game coming out with four points on the day.

Lucan battled hard in the third period but ST THOMAS played just as hard and kept the Irish from getting to the board.  This game had all the STARS elements, team play, quick passing, hard skating and never giving up on the play.

Everyone in the game was definitely player of the game and you all earned the slushies boys. ENJOY!!

Thanks Coach Brent!!!

GO STARS!!!!
