Good Showing at Home Tournament
Although their record was 1-2-0 in last weekends tournament and they failed to make it to the play-off round, they still competed well in a competitive field of 10 teams in the St. Thomas Major Midget A division.

In game one they faced their first opponent from Tillsonburg and came away with a 5-1 win.  Josh Nesbit got the start in this lop sided battle and played solid stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced.  Jesse Tottle opened the scoring after winning a face-off in the offensive zone and positioning himself in the slot, received a pass from Folkard and made no mistake in burying the puck to start the route of the visitors from Tillsonburg.  Jesse also added 3 assists in this game, good to have him back.  Josh Reda had another multi-goal game scoring 3 goals that made it 5-0.  The other goal in this one was scored by Derek Folkard who also was in on 3 other markers in game one.

Soon after game two started it was apparent that the team from Richmond Hill was going to be a much tougher test than the previous game. After the first period the game remained scoreless after both goalies made some key saves to keep their teams even going into the second.  Plenty of chance in the second period with both teams having a few power play opportunities.  The only goal in this frame was on a penalty shot for Richmond Hill after their player was hauled down on a breakaway.  In the third period the boys managed to fire 15 shots at the Richmond Hill net minder and I literally mean right at him.  Reda finally broke the seal when a somewhat harmless looking shot happened to miss the goalie.  The game stayed tied only to be heart broken with Richmond Hill potting the winner with 13 seconds left in the game.  Rogie played well to limit the Richmond Hill Stars to 2 goals, and with our guys firing 27 shots on them we only managed the one.

Needing a win or a maybe a tie to get to the playoff round our boys faced their toughest opponent of the tournament with they faced the team from Woolwich who appeared from previous games to be a bigger, stronger and faster team then our hometown heros.  Our guys knowing that they must win came out hard in the first outshooting their opponents 8-3 but failed to score and went into the second with a scoreless tie.  Reda opened the scoring with a scramble on front of the net just as a Woolwich penalty expired.  The Stars quickly made in 2-0 with a tick tack toe play started by Dane Jacolleti over to Folksy and quickly on to the stick of Jesse Tottle who put it away to complete the well designed trifecta.  With 5 minutes to go Woolwich got on the board to tighten it up and eventually tying the game 2-2 before starting the third.  Derek Folkard scored a beauty to start the scoring in the third and regain the lead but not for good.  Woolwich scored on a 5 on 3 powerplay after Rogie made a great save on the initial shot but down a couple of guys and easy rebound for the visitors.  Woolwich went on to score the winner with a short time left in the game for our boys to come back.  A great effort and a well played game but a loss to leave them out of the playoff round.

Not the record they wanted but their compete level was high and with every game they got stronger and stronger.  Better days to come with positive results I'm sure.  Good tourney Stars!!!!
