Minor Bantam Stars Are Moving On To OMHA Quarter Finals !!!
The St. Thomas Pharmasave Minor Bantam A travelled to Leamington (weekend of Jan. 24-26) to play @ the regional OMHA Playdown qualifying tournament hosted by Southpoint.

As a 2nd seeded team, the Jr. Stars received a bye at this tourney.  They played 3 games with a record of Win; 4-0 vs Riverside, Loss: 0-3 vs Essex & Win: 2-0 vs Amherstburg.  The Stars earned a spot in the Bluewater Playdown Series.  They advance to the Preliminary round to play against Essex Ravens (#1 seeded & #1 team of the tournament).

The Minor Bantam A journeyed to Essex on January 31st in their first game of the 6 point Playdown series. The Stars had a good start with a win of 2-1. Unfortunately they lost the next 2 games of the series; 2-1 & 3-2 despite much hard work and determined effort.  With their backs to the wall, the Stars came out hard at home last Saturday and were able to score in overtime with only 49 seconds left to push the series to game 5 with a win of 3-2.  What a game it was to watch in Essex on Sunday.  Both teams gave their all. After the first 2 periods, the game was still deadlock 0-0. Every "Stars" player showed a lot of heart and determination to upset the #1 seeded team. Right at the start of the 3rd period, the Stars put much pressure on the home team and scored after 32 seconds in the period, then followed by another goal in less than a minute after that.  This just brought the energy of the players, parents and families of St. Thomas to a much higher level.  It felt like we were the Home Team instead. The boys love it when the parents are loud !! :)
The puck kept flying at both ends of the net & the Essex Ravens managed to add a goal on the score board at 9:22 minutes left.  Of course, this close score made the game even more exciting then ever.  Not until 1:54 minutes left in the game, the Stars added another goal making it 3-1.  Not sure if there were any parents of the Stars still sitting in their seats at this point ! Shortly after that, the Ravens pulled their goalie hoping to score. In their disappointment, the Stars put another goal in the Ravens' empty net. The final score was a 4-1 win for St. Thomas.  This brought the end of the Preliminary round.

Throughout it all, the Stars worked very hard.  They were extremely disciplined and putting emphasis on not taking selfish penalties.  Strong goal tending and defensive play were key for the Team success.

In honouring this achievement, the guys got to shave a parent's head. They also got rewarded with a fun dance by another parent. What a fun show for the team !!!

The Minor Bantam A team will be travelling to Fort Erie to play the first 2 games of the Quarter Finals round this long weekend.

CONGRATULATIONS guys !!! As always, you made us so proud !!!

Keep up your awesome teamwork & good luck to all in the Quarter Finals !!!

GO STARS GO !!!!
