PeeWees Go Undefeated in OMHA Playdown Tournament
The St. Thomas Jr Stars Kilbank Metal Forming & Turning PeeWee A team travelled to Essex this past weekend to compete in our regional OMHA Playdown qualifying tournament. Seeded 1st overall entering the tournament, the Stars took advantage of the top position and posted a perfect 2-0 record to qualify for the Bluewater Regional Playdown Series.
As the 1st place seed, the Stars earned a bye in the first round of the tournament. Our first game wouldn't be until Saturday morning against the Riverside Rangers. With the Stars leading 2-0 as time wound down in the opening frame, Riverside cut our lead in half with just 1:37 remaining. However, the Stars restored a 2 goal advantage just 0:16 later and ended the period leading 3-1. With both teams scoring in the 2nd, it was a strong 3rd period for the Stars who scored twice more making it a 6-2 victory.
With a game one win, the Stars second game wasn't until Sunday morning. Facing the undefeated Essex Ravens, our 1st period was a little tentative although the Stars managed to open the scoring with only 0:11 remaining. Gaining confidence, the Stars exploded for 4 more unanswered goals in the 2nd to hold a commanding 5-0 lead. More strong play by all players at both ends of the ice held our opponents scoreless throughout. A late Stars' goal made the final 6-0. With this victory the Stars have earned a spot in the Bluewater Playdown Series.
