Tykes Play in a Winter Classic
The St Thomas Jr Stars Tyke hockey team travelled to Peterborough this past weekend to participate in the annual Under the Lock tournament played during Hockey Day in Peterborough. The tournament is played solely on outdoor hockey rinks formed on the Trent Canal at the base of the Lift Locks.

The first contest was early on Saturday morning against the Orangeville Flyers. The Stars came out flat but eventually battle back to make the game closer. The Stars had the pressure on Orangeville; unfortunately we spotted the Flyers to big of a lead. The final was 4-2 loss for the Stars with Liam Kidder and Trent Clinton notching the goals for St .Thomas.  Anderson Walker made some great saves in the net.

The Next Game pitted the Stars against Erin Hillsburgh Devils. This game would provide all what is to be expected in an outdoor winter game. With snow falling during the game, the Stars skated to a 4-2 win against good skating Devils squad.  Goals were scored by Aiden Holder, Nolan Tales, Owen McIntyre and Kidder. Mikey Devine played his best game of the year in backstopping the Stars to Victory. We would also like to give thanks the dads that joined the snow clearing crew during the game, this help keep the ice clear so we could continue to play.

The third game had St.Thomas squaring off against Hespeler Shamrocks. The game was played on less than desirable ice conditions and St Thomas once again found themselves in a bit of a hole to start the game.  The Shamrocks had all the luck on this day and left with a 3-1 win. St Thomas had a goal called back and controversial penalty shot called against them. Nolan Tales buried St Thomas only goal going coast to coast.
