Minor Atoms suffer second straight loss!
Game 3 of our season, and second of the weekend saw the Jr. Stars facing the Jr. Knights-Gold at home on Sunday.  With Saturday's loss to Waterloo still fresh in our minds, our boys came out strong against the skilled team from London.  We fought hard but 3 unanswered goals late in the 3rd sealed the deal for London with a 6-1 victory over a very tired St. Thomas Minor Atom team.

London opened the scoring fast, with a shot finding it's way over Brett C.'s catching glove just 0:22 into the first period.  Not to be discouraged, our boys stuck to the game plan and held the Jr. Knights off the scoreboard for the rest of the period.  Strong defensive play by Chase C. and Ian W. including a penalty kill helped to limit London's chances while Brett C. turned away the shots that did get through.

The 2nd period saw our team play with grit and courage.  Luka D. and Brad G. continued our defensive game to hold London scoreless until the 2:25 mark of the period.  Down 2-0, this period could have been entirely different if it wasn't for London's goalie who turned away quality scoring chances from Russell O., Miles V., Tyler M., and Harrison B.

With the game still in reach we headed into the 3rd ready and able.  Brad G. stepped up with a shot from the blue line but couldn't get it through traffic in front of the net.  Russell O. chipped the puck out of our end and a foot race was on.  Advantage to Russell O. as he sped away from their defensemen, until the Jr. Knights' goalie hurried to reach the puck first, smothering it to stop play and take away our scoring opportunity.  Russell O. finally spoiled their shutout with a power play goal at 4:07 of the 3rd period, just 0:08 into London's only penalty of the match.  Unfortunately 3 goals for London in the last half of the period, as well as one earlier in the 3rd was too much for our guys to overcome.  A 6-1 victory for London, and St. Thomas' second loss of the weekend, and the season.

Forget the scoreboard for today boys, a bounce or two in our favour could have made all the difference.  You played back to back games against 2 very strong hockey clubs.  You played well and you never gave up!  Keep up the great work!!!!
