Heritage Classic
Good times in Oshawa

The Novice Select Team attended their first tournament of the year on the weekend, The Heritage Classic in Oshawa. The team worked hard but were snake bit through the first two games unable to bury the many chances we had losing 7-0 to Kingston and 5-0 to Thornhill. Nelson Clarke earned Player of the Game against Kingston while Tristan Cruikshank picked up the award in game two.

In tough in the third game facing the first place team ,Peterborough, the kids went down 1-0 in the first 16 seconds of the game ,but like all weekend kept their heads up and battled to tie the game a minute later when Mason Newell buried from the slot with Nelson Clarke and Tristan Cruikshank drawing assists. Peterborough took the lead back but we responded once again when Darryn Olyschlager sprung Luka Dennis on a partial breakaway, who tucked a backhand behind the goalie. Unable to buy a bounce even if we had a million dollars the team ended the game down 7-2 with Mason Newell picking up Player of the Game.

Despite the outcome of the games it was a good weekend with a pizza party, lots of mini sticks, and some swimming that brought the team closer together. The coaching staff is very proud of the effort the team gave never quitting or giving up from the time the puck dropped till the final buzzer. It is that type of effort that will eventually get us where we want to be.
