ST THOMAS ATOM AE STARS TAKE OVER 1ST PLACE IN REGULAR SEASON PLAY
ST THOMAS ATOM AE STARS win 1-0 over the Mount Brydges Cougars, and a huge 6-4 win over the Ilderton Jets increasing their standings to 15-2-1 for the season, with 95 goals for and 33 against.  These two games had everything a hockey fanatic could want; plays at both ends of the rink, breakaways and hard play with a victory for the home team.

GAME 1  - 1-0 WIN OVER MOUNT BRYDGES

In net, Chris Wood;”Woody”; extended his shutout steak to 3 games in a row.  He’s one hot goalie.  Woody faced many breakaways and rushes to the net and stopped them all.  From a hot glove hand, to sprawling saves and a little bit of help from the goaltender’s best friend, Chris helped his team come out with the win.

Again the ST THOMAS ATOM AE STARS had to play hard as a team to come out with the win.  It is the one concept of this team that makes them play well together; you win as a team, you lose as a team.  When the boys use this concept, no matter what they are successful.  Helping out on defense, Noah Allen and Carson Nurse paired up to block shots and steering others away from the net.  Carson kept his head in the game and also saved a sure goal for Mount Brydges by sweeping the puck out from the goal crease.  While other defense pairings of Caden Beshara teaming up with Josh Levesque and Josh Allen and Sam Graham kept taking their opponents wide in the zone and then clearing the puck from their end.

Wingers, Noah Dos Santos, Josh Hare, and David Gauthier kept Mount Brydges bottled up in their own end, getting frustrated not being able to move the puck.  After a lengthy injury, it was great to see Ryan Payne back on the ice, skating hard and completing passes.  Great work Ryan!  With a few stick handling deaks around players, Tysen Hunter netted the game winning goal as he blew on past to hit the left top shelf.

With seconds ticking down on the clock and Mount Brydges pulling their goalie, Cameron Watson, Ryan Farrell and Devin Robison-Sareh played their positions effectively to clear the puck down the ice.

It is truly great to watch the boys progress to play as a team.

GAME 2 – 6-4 WIN OVER ILDERTON JETS

Another exciting game to watch as the ST THOMAS ATOM AE TEAM defeated Ilderton to take over top spot in the regular season standings with 31 points in 18 games played and only 2 regular season games left to play.  Matt Beckwith came up with the big saves when needed and played a solid game for his teammates.  The defense really turned up the heat and dominated the Ilderton forwards, not letting them get to the net many times and keeping the puck in the offensive zone for most of the game.

Tysen Hunter had a fantastic game getting 4 of the 6 goals and adding an assist to another.  Tysen seemed to be always in the right place at the right time as Caden Beshara, Josh Levesque, Dylan Buhler, and Ryan Payne all assisted on the goals, putting the pass right on Tysen’s stick from close passes to a long stretch pass down the ice, where he beat the defense and scored.  David Gauthier received a fast paced give and go pass from Josh Hare to beat Ilderton’s goalie.  Ryan Payne celebrated his first goal back from injury as he lit up the goalie for another while he battled for the puck and got the rebound.  The boys certainly gave the crowd lots to cheer for and a great performance as they scored three of the goals in four minutes frustrating Ilderton’s goalie and defense.

Again it just proves it, if you play hard as a team you can succeed.  Players of the game nods go to Josh Hare for his hard working plays on the penalty kill, Dylan Buhler and Ryan Payne for the heads up plays to assist on the goals today.

The boys have a lot to be proud of.  They again came out and played two hard, fast paced physical games. Not only did they have two home back to back wins, but again they can say they are number 1 in the league.

KEEP UP THE EXCITING PLAYS STARS!!!!
