Stars drop opener
Submitted By david vader on Sunday, February 14, 2010
The Maxwell's Cameras/Ansell's Awards midget AE team dropped their OMHA playdowns series opener against Belle River by a 5-4 score Saturday night in Belle River. Jacob Vader opened the scoring five minutes into the game but the home team tied the score in the final minute of the period.  Garrett Nudds and Brad Holder scored early in the second but again the home team came back to tie the score before the end of the period. St. Thomas took the lead in the third on a pretty passing play with Holder and Connor Farrell setting up Vader for the go ahead goal but again Belle River came back to tie the score. With 2:22 left on the clock the home team took the lead for the first time in the game and held on for the win. Cody Gooding and Jon Liebregts had strong games for St. Thomas. The Stars knew they were in for a tough series as Belle River had lost only three games in the regular season. Game two is Sunday at 5:45 at the Timken Center.
